Purpose

How do you know what your purpose is?  Who tells you? Is your purpose attached to your job, marriage, family, friendships, material things?

What is my purpose in life? How often have you asked yourself that question? I have asked myself that question many times in my life — usually, when something negative is happening. I have had times when I felt lost, hopeless, alone, unconfident. For years, I thought it was my job, my relationships. . . I often saw someone or something else as the source of my negative feelings. One day I pondered, what was the consistent factor? Well, it was me! I was the problem or at least my thinking was. From that moment, I learned to expect responsibility for my thinking, actions and feelings. I learned to confront my thinking and to honestly look at myself. Doing so invited me to find myself and free myself from worrying and judgment. Doing this help me find my purpose: to Be a Better Person, Husband, Dad, Son, Brother, and Employee. Once I discovered I needed to acknowledge my thinking, that I alone am in charge of how I think, feel, and act, and that I alone have the power to change unhealthy thoughts — everything started to change in my life. At first, I tried to do everything at once, and of course, I failed. But then I remembered what my parents would tell me: “Small changes lead to big changes.” I continue every day to be in the process of Becoming a Better Person.

That’s my purpose.
